Reiki an incredible system

Mikao Usui the founder of Reiki gifted an incredible mind, body, energy system. The system offers precepts or values that underpin the practice,  meditation and breathing techniques, mantra and symbols, hands on healing and empowerments. Reiki provides practitioners with the tools for rediscovering  true self.

The Reiki dance

I often refer to a Reiki practitioner during a treatment as being in a dance. The practitioner simply becomes one with the practice, moving freely in the connection and flows within the energy.  It’s in this space which may be fleeting that we can access our truth or correct spirit. We simply reside in the non-dual arising of life force the true nature of our being.

Cutting to the truth

During Sangha discussion we reflected on the teachings of Swami Sarvapriyanadra  who spoke of differentiating ego and mind from pure consciousness and we explored the relationship with Reiki Practice. He spoke of:

We are not:

  • mind of intellect
  • the body
  • the ego

Each of the above are objects of experience. Swami spoke of three kinds of connections to the ego and the goal of cutting the connection with “I” and pure consciousness. These three connections are:

  1. Pure consciousness – the real you, there is no connection with the real you and the ego. The ego is an object. This can’t be cut as its natural. The method is to know of our ignorance .
  2. Reflective consciousness– ego shines in reflective consciousness. When there is a mirror there will be a reflection of consciousness. Our original face isn’t reflected in the mirror, it is the face. The moment there is a mirror there is a reflective face, reflective consciousness. We cut the relationship by the knowingness of the reflection. It is not me.
  1. Body– ego connects with the body, the moment it dies the subtle body moves to a new body, the ego is always connected to a physical body. A new body forms and a new “I” which is connected by past karma. When we exhaust karma we cut the tie

Awakening is knowingness and knowledge of our ignorance to:

I am not

  •  the body
  •  ego and
  • not the mind.

Reiki and cutting through

Through the system of Reiki we learn to cut the connection of “the witness self and the ego” through the application of the techniques. Reiki works on mind/energy, body, ego states through practice with each technique assisting to cut through the ego identify. Through self care and hands on healing practice practice the body becomes the direct vehicle to experience the truth. The practitioner learns to let go of the grasping mind and to trust in the flow of Reiki. This lessening the grip of duality allowing the practitioner to reside in the natural flow of universal consciousness and becoming one within the dance.

Swami Sarvapriyanadra reminds us that we are already enlightened but we are just lost to this frame of reference, caught in ego identity the “I” of experience and remain the observer of the ego self. In Reiki we use the body and mind to rediscover our truth,  our physical experience is the window to the soul, the issue is we keep looking outside for an external something when in fact its hidden within. Using first symbol practice we begin to re discover.

First symbol and mantra

Todays Sangha focused on the advanced practice method using first symbol and its mantra Choku Rei.

The image above – first symbol

Mantra – CHO KU REI.

There are different meanings for the symbol and its mantra depending on your lineage of practice. However, whichever way you look at these meanings they both point us in the same direction. The meaning within the western lineage of Reiki is less direct where the eastern meaning is more direct.

Western lineage – First symbol is often referred to as putting the energy of the universe where my hands are, or to strengthen the energy flow. This focus is more external and less direct.

Eastern lineage – First symbol literally means direct or correct spirit which describes accessing our own spirit or true self. A more direct focus and inward approach to spiritual practice.

First symbol practice

Cho Ku Rei is a tool to rediscover our truth

  • The mantra Cho Ku Rei helps us to stand in the present moment of now
  • It is to stand in Makoto our truth and have gratitude for our experience
  • 1st symbol reminds us to be mindful, present and grounded
  • The more we connect in this way we become a beacon of light for others

The mantra has an earth energy vibration and connection with a senses of  “groundedness”. If we are in a thinking or worrying space we are ungrounded and our energies move to the spiritual forces leaving is with a destabilising feeling. Being in the spiritual forces without balance is to be in worry and fear, we are distracted and unconnected.

Chanting the mantra

  • Open up the belly
  • Take deep breaths so that the sound resonates through your whole being
  • The deep breathing stimulates the hara linking to the earth energy.
  • This method increases the power of the physical body
