From Reiki Healing to Esoteric Awakening
From Reiki Practice to Makoto ReikiDo
The evolution

What I began to expose was that the methods of Reiki are not merely techniques for healing. They are gateways that gradually open the practitioner to a deeper understanding of themselves, others, and the nature of reality.
Through practice, Reiki cultivates presence, compassion, and the ability to offer meaningful support through treatment. For many practitioners, however, there comes a point where growth seems to plateau. While Reiki continues to provide benefit, there is often a sense that a deeper dimension remains unexplored.
A Journey That Began with Reiki
Makoto ReikiDo did not begin as a philosophy or spiritual system. It began with Reiki practice itself.
When first encountering Reiki in 2005, it was approached as many practitioners initially experience it: a method of healing, self-development, and energetic awareness. Through years of study within both Western and Japanese Reiki traditions, what initially appeared to be a therapeutic system gradually revealed itself as something much deeper.
Over time, Reiki became less about techniques and more about transformation. The symbols, precepts, meditations, and treatment practices began to point toward a profound inner journey, one concerned not only with healing suffering but with understanding the nature of mind, awareness, and human experience itself.
This growing realisation inspired a search for the deeper roots of Reiki and the spiritual principles that underpin genuine awakening.
A Rare Integration of Reiki, Buddha Dharma, and Esoteric Cosmology
The development of Makoto ReikiDo emerged through a unique convergence of traditional Reiki practice, Buddha Dharma, and esoteric Buddhist cosmology.
These teachings provided a sophisticated understanding of consciousness, compassion, wisdom, and awakening. More importantly, they offered a framework that illuminated many aspects of Reiki that had previously been understood only intuitively.
What emerged was a growing recognition that Reiki and Buddha Dharma were not separate paths, but complementary expressions of a deeper reality.
The Turning Point
In 2019, during a Reiki-infused lucid sleep practice, a pivotal experience occurred.
In Buddhist language, this experience resembled a direct encounter with the Clear Light Mind, a luminous and spacious awareness beyond conceptual thought and ordinary perception. While no single experience defines awakening, this event profoundly transformed the understanding of Reiki, healing, and spiritual development.
Following this, the deeper principles hidden within Reiki practice began to reveal themselves with increasing clarity. Reiki was understood not only as a method for healing the body and mind but also as a vehicle for recognising our innate awakened nature.
From this insight, Makoto ReikiDo gradually emerged.
The Influence of Vairocana
A defining feature of Makoto ReikiDo is its relationship with the teachings of Vairocana Buddha.
Within esoteric Buddhism, Vairocana represents the all-pervading nature of awakened awareness, the boundless field from which all phenomena arise. Through years of study and contemplation, themes such as the Dharmadhātu, luminous awareness, dream and sleep yoga, the embodiment of the Three Diamonds, and non-dual wisdom became increasingly integrated into Reiki practice.
Alongside formal training, there were also unexpected moments of discovery. Certain practices and insights began to emerge intuitively through meditation, Reiki, dream practice, and direct experience, often long before they were encountered within traditional teachings. Practices such as the Mantra of Light, mandala offering, and contemplations on luminous awareness appeared as subtle inner nudges that seemed to arise naturally from the unfolding path itself. Years later, encountering these same methods within established esoteric Buddhist traditions provided both validation and a deeper understanding of their purpose and significance.
This integration was never intended to replace Reiki’s healing tradition. Instead, it provided a deeper spiritual context for understanding why Reiki has the capacity to transform practitioners from within. What had once appeared as isolated healing techniques gradually revealed themselves as gateways. These gates opening into a much broader journey of wisdom, compassion, and awakening.
The result is a path that honours Reiki’s origins while providing experienced practitioners with a framework for ongoing growth. This offers supports deeper meaning, and spiritual realisation.
Finding Meaning Beyond Technique
Many Reiki practitioners eventually become highly competent in treatments, attunements, and teaching. Yet a common question often remains:
“What is Reiki ultimately pointing toward?”
Makoto ReikiDo was developed as a response to this question.
Rather than adding more techniques, it invites practitioners to deepen their relationship with the practices they already know. Symbols become reflections of awakened qualities. Meditation becomes a direct exploration of awareness itself. Treatment practice becomes an expression of compassion, presence, and interconnectedness.
In this way, Reiki evolves from something we do into something we become.
A Living Path for Modern Practitioners

Today, Makoto ReikiDo continues as a living lineage that honours both tradition and direct experience. Through Reiki, meditation, ritual practice, ethical living, and contemplative inquiry, practitioners are guided toward the recognition of their innate wisdom, compassion, and connection with all life.
For those who sense that Reiki holds a depth beyond healing techniques alone, Makoto ReikiDo offers a pathway into that deeper dimension. A path that unites authentic Reiki practice with profound spiritual development and the timeless wisdom of the Buddha Dharma.
